Respect on carrying a 35L pack for extended South America travel! So many backpackers haul 65L+ monsters and regret it the second they have to squeeze into crowded local buses. How is the base weight feeling at 2,500 meters altitude?

tbh base weight is right under seven kilos. walking uphill on dirt tracks with thirty percent less oxygen is brutal regardless, but having a compact bag that fits under the bus seat without paying extra luggage fees is totally worth it.
